Scholarship Description

Since the Star Scholarship Launched in Fall 2015, Star Scholar completion rates are nearly double the national average. Star Scholars have received almost $5 million in additional scholarships. City Colleges will provide waivers for all eligible tuition and books not covered by financial aid. CPS graduates will have up to three years to use the funds, starting in the first fall CCC semester after their CPS graduation.

Scholarship Details

  • Free tuition and books at City Colleges for eligible students
  • Open to Chicago Public Schools students and students from Chicago-based Big Shoulders Fund-supported schools
  • Designed to support students pursuing a degree or certificate

Eligibility Criteria

  • Apply within one year of graduating from a Chicago-based high school
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA at high school graduation
  • Enroll in one of CCC's pathways
  • Complete the FAFSA or Certificate of Ineligibility to Complete FAFSA form if not eligible for FAFSA
  • Consent to share contact and student data with Star Transfer Program colleges and universities
  • Undocumented and international students are eligible; home-schooled and GED students are not
  • Residency requirements vary based on the type of high school attended

Application Process

  1. Ensure you meet all the eligibility criteria
  2. Apply for the Star Scholarship within one year of high school graduation
  3. Complete and submit the FAFSA or the Certificate of Ineligibility to Complete FAFSA form
  4. Give consent to share your data with Star Transfer Program partner institutions

Of Star Scholars projected to graduate this year, more than 80 percent are in the first-generation of their family to attend college. Requirements vary, however, to be academically eligible for the Star Scholarship, students must earn a B average in high school.
