Scholarship Description
The Society of Lake Management professionals (SLMP) is seeking applications for its annual Student Scholarship Award. SLMP intends to award $6,000 (1st- $3,000, 2nd - $2,000 and 3rd - $1,000) in scholarships to the top three successful applicants at the January SLMP Summit that will take place in January at the Hard Rock Hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida. Scholarship funds are provided directly to the student and may be used by the recipient to cover costs associated with education, project/research expenses.ADVERTISEMENT
Eligible applicants should be enrolled as full-time undergraduate or graduate students in an accredited college or university within the United States. Exceptions will be made for technical schools as well as other employment or jobs that have stimulated ideas or products that make life easier for lake managers. Focus should be related to water quality, equipment innovation, limnology, aquatic plant management, aquaculture, fisheries management, or aquatic ecology of private waters.
Application must be received no later than the given due date, and will be evaluated based on: Quality of coursework and research; Proposed budget; Cost vs. benefit to the industry; Is this new and engaging knowledge?; Information obtained from references with knowledge of your project – supply three; Does the project have clearly defined goals, with clear ideas of how the applicant plans to achieve that goal and what the end result will be?; Is the project useful, relevant, and practical for the management of private waters within the United States?; Statement of career goals as well as special interests and enthusiasm; and in-person presentation. The top three candidates will be asked to attend the meeting and present with 2 nights hotel paid for as well as conference registration waived.
