Systemic racism is a widespread problem in our society with many layers and should be challenged at its core. The GLCO BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) scholarship was created to provide educational opportunities for and alleviate the financial burden disproportionately faced by black, indigenous, and people of color marginalized by systemic and institutionalized racism.ADVERTISEMENT
GLCO will be awarding two $10,000 scholarships to students graduating from a Los Angeles high school by the end of the current academic year, who identify as BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) and have an interest in pursuing a career in a related industry (e.g. eyewear, medical, business). If you receive this scholarship, you will have the opportunity to participate in a paid summer internship to support your career development. The internship will offer you the chance to learn how to design and develop and eyewear collection, gain hands-on training, and learn about business operations. The internship will have a specific curriculum and learning goals such as design, communications, project management, customer service, adjusting fitting frames, and assisting our licensed opticians in our labs.
Applicants must identify as a BIPOC and graduate from a Los Angeles high school by the end of the academic year the scholarship is awarded. Must plan to pursue a major that works towards a career within the eyewear industry, have a 3.0 Cumulative GPA and plan on enrolling in a two-year or four-year college/university in the upcoming academic year. Must be available to participate in a summer internship in the summer following your 1st year of college. For more information or to apply, please visit the scholarship provider's website.
