Scholarship Description

The Ruth Henderson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor Mrs. Henderson’s life-long dedication to teaching and community service. A three-member committee will review scholarship applications and select one or more recipients. Each recipient will receive a scholarship award equal to one year’s worth of tuition and fees (based on a 12-credit-per-semester course load at the educational institution of the student’s choice). The award amount will be increased by $1,000 per academic year to assist scholarship recipients with the purchase of required learning materials. All scholarship awards will be paid directly to educational institutions. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three years, in accordance with the Community Foundation’s scholarship policies. The selection committee may also consider applications from current recipients who are preparing to attend graduate school.

Criteria: A U.S. citizen; Colorado resident who is eligible for in-state tuition rates; planning to attend an accredited, publicly funded college or university in Colorado; senior or recent graduate at a high school located in Morgan, Washington, Logan, Yuma, Phillips or Sedgwick Counties (applicants who earn a high school diploma or equivalent within two years of the date of application are eligible to apply; students from private schools and those who have been home schooled are eligible to apply). Preference given to applicants who attend or recently graduated from Brush High School; applicants who intend to pursue a career in teaching; demonstrate the potential to be successful in their post-secondary educational journey; and demonstrate financial need, as documented on a submitted FAFSA form or an accepted equivalent. (Note: Scholarship awards are intended to assist students who demonstrate financial need but who are not eligible for PELL grants.) Students selected for a scholarship award must: 1. Provide the Community Foundation with the information necessary to verify the cost of tuition and fees at the educational institution he/she will attend. 2. Enroll in, and complete, at least 12 credit hours each semester at an accredited, publicly funded college or university in Colorado.
