This scholarship is awarded in the fall semester to incoming freshmen who have outstanding academic records; have overcome economic or educational hardship and have a serious commitment to addressing issues of social justice as servant leaders or as scholars. This scholarship ranges from $6,500-$8,500 and is renewable.
-Must attend MLK community bi-weekly meetings
-MLK Orientation: Last weekend in July (Saturday morning through Sunday lunch)
-Must maintain a 3.0 (the cumulative for your MLK peer group is 3.5 and honorary society entrance)
-Must perform a minimum of 20 hours of community service per semester (applicants are encouraged to complete 100 hours per twelve months for United States Presidential citation)
-Must attend an annual retreat the last weekend (Friday-Sunday) in September
-Must take the MLK Honors Seminar in the spring semester of the first year
-Will function on committees to plan campus/off campus programming
-Will eventually function as the chair of a campus or off-campus program
-Must produce a "magnum opus" (a great work demonstrated through developing a community project or a scholarly paper dedicated to the pursuit of a social justice issue) during the four year period
