Since 2005, the Northern Suburban Special Education District (NSSED) Foundation has been helping to make the dream of college a reality for many students. The Kinnett Scholarship for College/Further Education, aimed at graduating seniors from NSSED-affiliated high schools, grants $1,000 scholarships to:
-Special Education students pursuing further education through college, vocational school, or post-secondary programs
-Students planning on pursuing a college degree in special education
-Any graduating senior from an NSSED affiliated high school program who fits one of the above purposes
-Students applying for a scholarship are required to submit a completed application, as well as a written essay indicating both the reason that the student deserves to receive the scholarship and the student's plan for further education
-Must submit a list of student and community activities in which they have been involved, including service to children and/or families with disabilities; a list of awards or accomplishments; two letters of recommendation, one personal and one from a high school teacher or administrator; and a transcript indicating academic achievement

NSSED-affiliated high school districts include Deerfield and Highland Park High School District 113, Glenbrook High School District 225, New Trier High School District 203 and Lake Forest High School District 115.
